The Trail's Future

Though the Trail's future is still is in question, what is not in question is the changing face of Treasure Island.

When you first arrive on Treasure Island you will cross Treasure Island's new 50 million dollar Causeway Bridge. The new bridge is one of the most advanced bridges of it's type in the world and is obviously the pride of the community.

Also in Treasure Island's future is a Publix Supermarket which is currently under construction on the location of the former Topps Supermarket and Treasure Island Fun Center. The new Publix will be only one of a handful of Publix Stores that is built with parking on the ground floor and the store itself on the second floor accessible by elevator. This was done to accommodate FEMA flood requirements.

All along the Trail you will notice a major change in the look and feel of Treasure Island's beach front. Gone are many of the familiar "Mom and Pop" motels which were built in the 50's. Replacing those classic "Route 66" style lodgings are high rise condo/hotels which offer upper scale accommodations built to attract a new type of visitor.

Rest assured that there are still many of the smaller motels many Treasure Island visitors have become accustomed to though, they are getting harder and harder to find. Hopefully, with the end of the condo/hotel boom, many of the smaller motels will survive though
rising insurance and tax costs continue to put a strain on the smaller businesses.

If you do prefer the new and more luxurious condo/hotels there are several along the Beach Trail from which to choose from. All the newer accommodations have received excellent reviews and are designed for vacationing families. The units have multiple bedrooms and kitchens such as

A walk along the Beach Trail will take you on a tour of a changing Treasure Island as the few remaining "Mom and Pop" motels stand shoulder to shoulder with the new aged condo/hotels. It will interesting to see how the ever changing real estate market and overall economy effects the next building boom on Treasure Island.
